Nothing says Christmas party season more than sequins! Every year girls hunt out that perfect sequin number to slay the dancefloor in on New Years Eve. It is just that timeless, effortlessly glam trend that always rocks the colder months. However this year sequins have hit a new level of sass. This season has seen us go so sequin mad that saving it for the evening is just not enough. Yes, daytime sequins have become a thing!
The high street has had a sparkly makeover with sequined everything being high priority and it has now been deemed acceptable to add a bit of shimmer to everyday outfits. This new trend may not be for everyone but for those who want to wear it, it is not as outrageous to style as it sounds.
I picked up my sequin bomber jacket from Boohoo via Asos; of course it was one of the loudest sequin pieces I could find; which made me love it more. My mum saw it hanging in my room and was speechless at the sight of it; and not in a good way ha! However even though this sequin jacket is pretty wacky; I have made it super wearable.
The number one tip for wearing sequins in the daytime would be to team them with basics. Heavily sequined items will do all the talking so keep everything else simple; so for sequin outerwear like mine stick to modest pieces! Pick some denim jeans and a plain t-shirt or smart shirt in black, white or grey and you can’t go too wrong!
Pairing sequins with rock style pieces works so well too! If you are working a sequin skirt into your day look then a band tee looks pretty epic; also team it with black leather pieces and accessories with gun metal hardware for that badass but feminine vibe. Opting for a rock chic look or a sports luxe look are two really great ways to make sequins cool for daytime. For sporty vibes go for sequin pencil skirts, trainers and bomber jackets which makes a great outfit. Also sequin blazers with a hoody underneath, denim and heels makes for a wicked sports luxe look too.
High neck sequined crop tops are really popular right now and you can totally work them into daywear by pairing them with skinny faux leather trousers and trainers or some high-waisted denim, statement ankle boots and a puffer jacket. Another piece that keeps popping up on the high street is sequin cami dresses. Again these are really adaptable to wearing in the daytime by teaming them with roll neck jumpers and t-shirts underneath for that ultimate work to party look.
If all of this is a bit too much for you, don’t fret because you can still get in on the daytime sequin hype. Look out for pieces that have subtle sequin embellishment such as patches of sequins on a t-shirt or sequin embellished denim and this is a simple way of working the trend into your everyday looks. There is also an abundance of sequin accessories on the market from cross body bags to ankle boots so again team these with your go-to daywear pieces and instantly sass up your look.
